It was such a great time getting to shoot Alison and Nick for their maternity photos. It was my second maternity shoot of the summer, with the first being in Milbrook as a beautiful backdrop. I wanted something equally charming, and Alison and Nick didn’t have any specific area they were interested in, so we ventured around a bit but landed at Vanderbilt estate, and then headed down to the water for some river pictures with the scene Mid-Hudson bridge as a backdrop.
The weather was absolutely perfect! We got an early start so we had the aid of some great morning sun. The biggest challenge is working around all the shadows casted, but we could always find a sweet spot.
The best part of Vanderbilt is there are a tremendous number of great locations that all provide drastically different backdrops. The black and white above is along the bridge right when you drive into the estate. Meanwhile, they have a beautiful garden section that gave us a great backdrop for the shot below.
We took quite a few pictures at Vanderbilt, and hitting the river was more or less an after thought. We were having a great run and thought we’d keep it going. The Mid-Hudson bridge and the very scenic Hudson River always provides an amazing environment for photos.
Alison and Nick have since recently had their baby, and I’m so glad I was able to part of this special time! I hope these are pictures they can cherish for a lifetime.
